Tailgate with Troy as the Trojans take on the Tigers

Sept. 28, 2017

On Sept. 30, the Troy Trojans will take on the No. 22 (Coach’s Poll) LSU Tigers in Death Valley after a 22-17 win against Akron Saturday night. LSU held off Syracuse 35-26.

As the Trojans work to overtake the Tigers, the Troy Riverfront Campus in Phenix City is hosting a tailgate party, and the community is invited.

“We wanted to do something to bring football spirit to our campus,” said Marianne Michael, Director of Campus Communications for Phenix City’s Troy Campus. “We wanted to have a community event and have people and alumni participate and pull out their Trojan spirit.”

The party kicks off at 6 p.m. on Whitewater Avenue. There will be family friendly events all around the Troy building. A kid zone will include rock painting, games and fun while there will be adult corn hole games going on, too. In addition to live music and fun, there will be food trucks set up in the parking lot, tailgate spaces will be available and, most importantly, the game will be shown on TVs throughout the campus. Coolers are welcome to the party, but glass containers are not. Michael said the college partnered with the Marriott hotel next door and they will be providing a bar for adult beverages. There will be tents set up for students and alumni to visit and talk Trojan football.

In an effort to give back to the community, there will be a raffle. Tickets will be on sale for $5 and giveaways including Charbroil grills, TVs, gift cards for food and services. All the money raised goes to the United Way of the Chttahoochee Valley, which recently announced its $6.9 million fund raising goal.

“It’s a chance to win great prizes and do good in the community,” Michael said.

The college is still looking for volunteers to help set up for the party. If you’re interested, email Brittany Zimdahl, Community Engagement Coordinator, at bzimdahl@troy.edu.

“The football tailgate party is a great tradition in our country and Troy is glad to be able to invite the community to watch our Troy Trojans go up against one of the best teams in the SEC at our new Phenix City Riverfront Campus,” said Vice Chancellor David White.
