The 7th Annual Russell County Stampede Rodeo will be Oct. 6 and 7 at the Exchange Club Arena on U.S. Highway 431 South.
This year’s event is hosted by the Russell County Sheriff’s Office, the Russell County Cattlemen’s Association, and the grand sponsor is NCIC.
The rodeo comprises a full eight events where you’ll see bull riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing and more. There will be children’s events, vendors, bounce houses and adult events.
“A rodeo is just old-time fun, family entertainment,” said Sheriff Heath Taylor. “It’s just pure, good ole country. We don’t see a lot of family, old-fashioned fun. I feel like this is something that everyone can enjoy from little kids to older adults.”
The Silver Wings from Fort Benning will parachute the American Flag into the event around 6:30 p.m. ET.
“That’s a really neat deal to watch, so I hope people will show up in time to watch,” Taylor said.
The event also acts as a fund-raiser. Taylor said he gives his portion of the proceeds to a local charity and every other year, he uses the funds for employee appreciation in the Sheriff’s Department.
“I can’t use taxpayer money for employee appreciation events, so we use this money every other year,” he said.
Food and apparel vendors will be at the event and the gates open at 5 p.m. The rodeo starts at 7 p.m. ET. Admission is $12 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-12, and free for children 5 years old and younger. Admission with a military ID is $10. Advanced tickets are available at the Russell County Sheriff’s Office.
