Lakewood on the Green tourney set

Get your golf clubs out and practice that swing! The annual Lakewood on the Green is here again and it’s sure to be an exciting event for the community. For those new to the area, Lakewood on the Green is an amateur golf tournament sponsored by Lakewood Elementary and Primary schools.

“It is always our largest fund-raiser of the year and every penny raised goes back to the students,” said Principal Lanette Holmes.

The money earned from the event goes towards supporting the schools in educational endeavors throughout the school year. In the past, the money raised during this event was spent in areas such as the school’s greenhouse, technological equipment, and other educational expenses.

To play, an entrance fee of $55 per player or $165 per team must be submitted at either school by 3 p.m. ET on Feb. 17. This fee includes two mulligans per person and covers all greens/cart fees. Local businesses can also get involved in the event by sponsoring a hole. Businesses can display a sign promoting their business by donating $100. For $200, businesses can secure a sign and a spot on both schools’ marquees periodically throughout the entire year for additional publicity.

Every year, a boy and a girl in each grade level is crowned Mr. and Miss Lakewood on the Green. The title is won by students who raise the most money in each grade level via business sponsors, donations and team/ individual entrance fees. The winners will be announced on Feb. 17 and recognized on Feb. 25 during the kids’ event activities at Lakewood Golf Course from 8:30-9:30 a.m. ET.
