Glenwood loses 65-60 on Monday
Nov. 30, 2017
Lakeside’s Isaac Paige hit six three-point goals and finished with 27 points as the Chiefs kept Glenwood winless with a 65-60 win Monday night at the Gators’ gym. Paige started his barrage with three of his three-point shots in the second as Lakeside outscored Glenwood 21-10 in the second period. That gave the Chiefs a six-point lead and they remained ahead the rest of the way.
“I was proud of the way we played in spurts, especially in the second half when they had the six point lead and we cut it two. We are getting better, we are just not there yet,” said Glenwood coach Dusty Perdue after the game. “Plus we need to get a secondary scorer. Christian (Clausell) led us in scoring again tonight but we don’t have a secondary scorer and we need that to take the pressure off. You look at the scoring and after Christian our second leading scorer had seven points.”
Clausell led the Gators, now 0-2 on the year, with 32 points but had his troubles from the foul line as he made on 13 of 23 shots. The Chiefs committed 26 fouls, most of them while the Gators attacked the basket but the Gators were unable to capitalize. Glenwood was 20 of 38 from the foul stripe while Lakeside, who improved to 4-2 on the year, was 14 of 27.
“I thought they shot a lot more free throws than that. But that’s a big stat. we miss 18 free throws and lose by five points,” Purdue said after the game.
The Gators had not played a game since Nov. 14, when the lost by a whopping 38 and Perdue made some changes in the starting lineup, putting Bryce Valero and Andrew Tillery in. Nick Adams, who had those seven points and is the only other lone returning starter with Clausell, had the seven points off the bench.
Following the game with Lakeside, the Gators go on the road and will face Abbeville Christian for their first back-to-back games of the season. They will return home Dec. 4 and host Autauga Academy.
