Families celebrate coming together through adoption

On Saturday, the Central Activity Center was abuzz with children, teenagers and parents celebrating the unique way their families came together: through adoption.

A Family Day celebration was held in honor of all the children who have been adopted since Probate Judge Alford Harden took office 11 years ago. Harden said there are just over 200 families who have come through his office for adoption.

“We’re celebrating families who have come together to be families. This is the best part of my job and it’s what I love to do best. Many of us are blessed. We come into this world and we have a family. Some of these children aren’t or they have a bad situation they need to be taken from. My job is to make sure they go to a good home with someone who loves them and cares for them,” he added.

This was the first time in Harden’s tenure that they have had a celebration like this and he hopes it won’t be the last time. Throughout the day, there was food, face painting, a petting zoo, and lots of fun.
